Spring 2023 AFP Consortium Meeting Recap: Further progress on AFP Security - AFP Tagging solution now Final - Updated References for IPDS and MO:DCA published in June 2023
By Jack Condon
In April 2023, the AFP Consortium Spring Meeting was held in Windsor, U.K., marking the first time in more than three years that we were able to meet in person and discuss the latest in AFP innovations. Many thanks to AFP Consortium member Solimar for hosting us just a block away from historic Windsor Castle!
At this meeting, the team made further progress on the Architecture Change Requests (ACRs) required to add encryption support to AFP at the data object level. This support will allow customers to encrypt and protect objects in the AFP output stream, including text, images, graphics, barcodes, object containers, and metadata.
The AFP Tagging solution that enables AFP Universal Accessibility is now at Final status, having been shipped by AFP Consortium member ISIS Papyrus in February 2023. The “Metadata Guide for AFP” document that defines the solution will be published as an official AFP Consortium document later this year. This topic has additional emphasis due to the European Accessibility Act, which is expected to go completely into effect by June 2025.
Review copies of the MO:DCA and IPDS References were made available for final review, with the decision to publish these simultaneously at the end of June 2023. For details, please refer to the "Publications" section located here on the AFP Consortium website: https://www.afpconsortium.org/publications.html
As always, having our member companies from around the world participate in improving AFP was fantastic! Our next meeting will take place in October 2023.
