Fall 2024 AFP Consortium Meeting Recap: More Discussion on Enhanced AFP Security, AFP User Survey Results
By Jack Condon
In September 2024, the AFP Consortium membership met in Böblingen, Germany for our Fall meeting. Many thanks to Consortium member Compart for hosting us at their headquarters!
Work continued on the Encrypted Data Objects addition to AFP. This support will allow customers to encrypt and protect objects in the AFP output stream, including text, images, graphics, barcodes, object containers, and metadata. For a member perspective on the growing importance of security in the world of AFP printing, please see this article by Jörg Palmer of Compart.
We also continued our detailed requirements review of potential future AFP Architecture enhancements, along with a review of the feedback received from users who have taken our AFP user survey. To those of you who participated in the survey, thank you! We are very interested in what AFP users have to say, so if you have a little time to take our brief survey, please go to the our homepage and press the “TAKE OUR USER SURVEY” button.
Finally, it was announced at the meeting that new versions of the MOCA and PTOCA References are being prepared for delivery, with publication expected in late 2024 and early 2025. Please see the Publications section of our website for all the latest AFP documentation.
It was a great meeting! Getting a chance to work with the industry experts who have made AFP the powerful output platform it is today is truly inspiring. Here’s looking forward to our next meeting in Boulder in the Spring!
